Challenge by the Sea

Challenge by the Sea is our unique team building program. Conducted on the beach,  this group recreational activity is designed to enhance effective teamwork by simulating real life problem-solving situations. The games highlight skills common to all winning teams – trust, cooperation, mutual support, commitment to common goals, open communication and accountability. Activities are geared towards reinforcing a winning attitude within your team. The risk-free activities enhance individual and group problem solving in a safe and supportive environment, helping to bring out the creative skills of each individual as they strive to assist their team through each endeavor. Our goal for all programs is to emphasize FUN learning – combining activities to boost team morale, help teams build better interpersonal relationships and to assist them in getting to know each other in a different environment. By putting employees in light-hearted scenarios, they are often in a better position to reflect on old relationships and perceive how they might be improved.

Our use of initiative games enables us to be very flexible in designing and executing programs in numerous settings, including indoors. We utilize active rather than passive activities, so we prefer to be outside in open spaces. The atmosphere of an outing adds to the ability to break down some of the barriers created in the more formal workplace. Our programs typically run around 2 hours depending on the size of your group. However, we are able to arrange both shorter and longer programs if requested. Each program is designed to address your group’s particular needs; so whatever the circumstances, be challenged and have fun with Adventures by the Sea’s Challenge by the Sea Program!

The following is a list of some of the initiative games that we use. Please remember that as professional facilitators, we need the flexibility to choose the games that we believe will be most effective for your group’s needs, goals and size. Not all games are included in each program.

Fishnet - Group must assist each member in getting through the “net,” following all the rules of the game. Focuses on support, trust, planning and team cooperation.
Sea Grass Sway – Group supports each member as each is gently passed around a trust circle. Focuses on support and trust skills.
Group Juggle – Group learns how to juggle together, thereby creatively increasing their effectiveness and efficiency. Focuses on “thinking outside the box” and working with what seems like “impossible constraints.”
Sandcastle Project – Utilizing the corporation’s theme or other appropriate one, the group is challenged to build a sand structure that best represents what the theme means to them. The challenge comes in “selling” your structure to the rest of the group. Focuses on creativity, inventiveness and cooperation.
Sea of Snakes – Group must successfully navigate a “sea of snakes” using bricks, boards and their wits without succumbing to the deadly snakes. Focuses on sharing resources, cooperation and utilization of resources.
Blind Square – Teams are blindfolded and handed a rope. The challenge is to form a perfect square without letting go. Focuses on communication, cooperation and group support.
